Education and Angling Development Officer

Nith Catchment Fishery Trust
Full Time
Auldgirth, Dumfries
40 hrs per week

Full-time position for 1 year initial contract. This post could could be split into two separate part-time positions.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for someone to join our team. The ideal candidate will be passionate about teaching young people about the aquatic environment, how to fish and encouraging angling on the River Nith.

Ideally, we would like to recruit one candidate for the full-time position of Education and Angling Development Officer. However, we would consider splitting the position into two part-time jobs, one to deliver the education component and the other to deliver the angling and development aspect. In this case, the salary and hours offered would be depended on experience and qualifications of the applicants.

The post holder will be required to co-ordinate and deliver education sessions to primary and secondary schools throughout Nithsdale, working closely with other members of staff to ensure smooth deliver of the outdoor education sessions.

They will also be required to develop education sessions specifically aimed at secondary students, advanced higher students and others wishing to further their education. This may include working with SQA and local schools/colleges to deliver NPA’s.

The angling role will include delivering angling sessions to schools and tutoring our Nith Young Anglers in a variety of angling techniques. Part of the role will include promoting fishing on the River Nith via social media and website.

The successful applicant will hold a degree in a relevant environmental/educational discipline and have experience working in an environmental/educational sector, be a skilled angler and hold a coaching/instruction qualification. They will be self-motivated, able to manage their time and have excellent communications skills.
