Induction; Ongoing; Support for Volunteers
Over 16

Summary of role

Friendly, outgoing and organised volunteers. This opportunity would suit people who enjoy talking to others, are able to listen and have a couple of hours free each week/fortnight that they could spend talking to an older person. Full training will be given and out of pocket expenses will be paid.

The aim of Food Train Friends is to improve the quality of life for our customers, by providing them with a befriending service on a regular basis. Volunteers will provide a consistent and reliable support to help customers experience social interaction on a regular basis.

Due to increased demand for our services food train friends is currently looking for more adult befriending volunteers in the Stranraer area. Ideally the befriender should have some spare time on their hands each week or fortnight to provide a befriending service to elder, isolated and lonely people by simply providing company, conversation and activities.

We provide a one to one service, a telephone service and a group outing service for our customers. Full training, guidance and support will be provided. The ideal candidate is someone who has good life experiences, a sense of humour amongst other skills.
