Wheels of Fleet is an established cycling project in Gatehouse of Fleet aiming to get as many people as possible cycling for short and medium journeys in and around the town. Wheels has been in existence for over ten years, and over this time has expanded the facilities and range of activities on the site in Gatehouse, supported by grants provided by a range of organisations.
Based at premises close to the centre of the town and next to the visitor centre of the Mill on the Fleet, the charitable project provides bike hire, maintenance and refurbishing of both conventional and electric bikes, and sales of second-hand bikes at affordable prices. Qualified bike mechanics mentor volunteers to carry out maintenance and repair work, building skills and capacity for local residents.
Led social rides for adults and children are arranged, and Wheels provide a weekly Bike Bus around the town to enable children to cycle to the local primary school, again supported by a small team of volunteers.
Wheels is now in need of a Project Officer. The post is fully funded for twelve months, and will be ongoing subject to further funding and development of the project to be ultimately financially self supporting.
If you are interested in applying for the above role, please forward a copy of your CV and a covering letter telling us why you are interested in the role and what skills you have to help Wheels of Fleet develop and grow into a self-funded, vibrant and inclusive cycling project supporting local people and visitors to choose the bicycle for their day to day journeys.
The closing date for applications is 6 July 2026. Interviews will be held early in July 2026. We are open to all applicants with the relevant skills and motivations and will consider a job share for the role, or a reduced/flexible commitment of the hours to suit the skills of the chosen applicant/s. The role is a self-employed position and a contract for 12 months from the month of acceptance of the role.
