Job Purpose:
We are seeking a compassionate, creative, and resilient Youth Worker to join our team and support the positive development of young people in our community. This is a deeply rewarding role for someone who is passionate about helping young people navigate challenges, build confidence, and achieve their full potential.
We are looking for someone who will, engage, inspire, and support young people by delivering activities, providing guidance, and creating opportunities that promote their personal, social, and emotional development. The Youth Worker will build positive relationships with young people, ensuring a safe and inclusive environment where they can explore their potential and build confidence.
Key Responsibilities:
Engagement and Relationship Building:
Build positive, trusting relationships with young people from a variety of backgrounds to encourage their participation in activities.
Act as a mentor and role model, offering support and advice on personal and social challenges, signposting to other services where needed.
Conduct outreach work to engage young people who may not access services through traditional channels.
Programme Delivery:
Plan and deliver engaging activities, workshops, and events that meet the needs and interests of young people.
Support the implementation of youth-led projects, empowering young people to take an active role in decision-making.
Promote inclusivity by ensuring all activities are accessible and welcoming to all participants.
Safeguarding and Well-Being:
Create a safe and supportive environment where young people feel respected and valued.
Reporting or address any Safeguarding issues in line with organisational policies.
Promote the physical and mental well-being of young people through positive interactions and guidance.
Outreach and Promotion:
Support outreach efforts to engage hard-to-reach young people and encourage community involvement, and engage young people who may not access services through traditional channels
Assist in promoting activities and events via social media, posters, and local networks.
Collaborate with colleagues, schools, local services, and external agencies to ensure joined-up support
Monitoring and Feedback:
Record attendance, participation, and feedback to evaluate the success of activities.
Provide input on improvements to programmes based on feedback and personal observations.
Teamwork and Collaboration:
Work closely with colleagues, volunteers, and external partners to deliver high-quality youth services.
Support the Project Manager in achieving project goals and objectives.
Represent the organisation in meetings, funding bids, and community events as required
Person Specification
We are looking for someone with a unique blend of skills and qualities that enable you to be a steady presence in the lives of young people.
Essential Skills and Attributes
Resilience – Able to manage challenging behaviours and emotionally demanding situations with perseverance and professionalism
Patience – A strong listener who can offer consistent support, even in the face of setbacks
Creativity – Brings ideas and energy to youth programming, with an ability to inspire through activities such as arts, sports, gardening/growing or media
Excellent communication skills – Confident in speaking with young people, colleagues, partners, and funders, including writing reports and delivering presentations
A flexible approach to working hours, including evenings and occasional weekends
Understanding of safeguarding and commitment to maintaining a safe, inclusive environment
Desirable (not required as training will be provided for the right candidate)
Experience working with young people in a formal or informal setting
Relevant qualifications in youth work, social work, community education, or a related field
Knowledge of local issues affecting young people, including mental health, social isolation, and poverty
