Job Purpose
The post holder reports to the Galloway and Southern Ayrshire Biosphere Communities & Education Lead Officer and will support the development and delivery of projects and initiatives that assist local communities and community-based organisations to make the most of the sustainability opportunities provided by both the Galloway and Southern Ayrshire UNESCO Biosphere designation and the D&G Climate Hub. The post holder will spend 50% of their time working within the D&G Climate Hub area (working under the guidance of the Climate Hub Lead Officer) and 50% working with the GSA Biosphere area.
Principal Duties
•
Contribute to the development of new community-based projects and initiatives
•
Support the delivery of the projects and programmes of the Community and Education Team and the D&G Climate Hub.
•
Engage local community-based organisations in working together to realise the opportunities of the UNESCO Biosphere designation and the D&G Climate Hub.
•
Promote and expand membership of the Biosphere Proud Supporter Scheme.
•
Networking and maintaining the membership of the Biosphere Communities scheme.
•
Supporting and assisting the D&G Climate Hub communities in their delivery of climate action.
•
Support communities in the development of community-based tourism, local sustainability, climate resilience, and health and wellbeing initiatives.
•
Support schools and colleges in the Biosphere to make best use of education for sustainable development resources.
•
Support and promote the local delivery of actions to address the UN Sustainable Development Goals.
•
Delivery of health and well-being initiatives within the UNESCO Biosphere.
•
Regular contribution to GSAB and D&G Climate Hub newsletter/website/social media communication streams.
•
Support the promotion of the UNESCO Biosphere to communities, visitors and special interest groups through talks and events.
•
Regular reporting to Community & Education Lead Officer
•
Support and promote volunteering opportunities in the Biosphere.
•
Administering the D&G Climate Hub seed fund and co-ordinating the quarterly newsletter.
