As a Training Dog Fosterer, you’ll provide a loving temporary home to a dog in training, typically for a period of 12 weeks, as they begin their journey to become a guide dog. You’ll get to see the progress your furry companion is making in their training and be a vital part of their journey, without the commitment of looking after a dog full time.
This opportunity is available in Dumfries, Kirkcudbright, Dalbeattie and Castle Douglas and Lochmaben.
For Dumfries and Lochmaben, the instructor will collect the dog from your home to carry out training, and return the dog to your home within the working day (Monday – Thursday). We have opportunities for people who would be available weekends only for the 12 week period (Thursday evening to Monday morning).
For Kirkcudbright, Dalbeattie and Castle Douglas, the instructor will collect the dog from your home to carry out training, and return the dog to your home (Monday – Friday). We have opportunities for people who would be available weekends only for the 12 week period (Friday – Monday morning).
You can find out more at www.guidedogs.org.uk/fosterer and apply online (note we have a specific set up for Dumfries and Galloway which isn’t detailed on the website! To discuss your situation, contact Emma on volattractnorth@guidedogs.org.uk)
We appreciate things come up, and can arrange a temporary home for the dog should you have a holiday planned, for example.
