We have two difference types of driving roles available at Galloway Community Transport. The first is driving our own buses for various member hires, charitable work, and helping to support other local charities and organisations with their transport needs. A MiDAS (Minibus Driver Awareness Scheme) certificate is required and we can provide this training. A D1 licence is required for our heavier buses, but not for our lightweight buses / electric car.
The second type of driving is volunteering for our patient transport services. This is using the volunteer’s own vehicle, and mileage and subsistence is reimbursed. In both cases, PVG clearance is required and we provide this at no cost to the volunteer.
Both roles are hugely rewarding and provide much needed support to the more vulnerable members of our community.

D1 for some vehicles and MiDAS certification
For buses experience with driving larger vehicles is beneficial but not essential.
Following MiDAS certification, vehicle familiarisation will be offered at times to suit, and general induction to other administrative processes
MiDAS certification is an online course of 5 modules, about 1 hour per module, followed by 2 hours of practical assessment.
