Gardening Volunteer [20720]

Eastriggs and Gretna Heritage Group

This role will help develop and maintain the museum’s ‘Dig for Victory’ garden and planting around the site. The museum tells the story of the local area in wartime and so the vegetable garden gives a look at how people grew their own food to supplement rations. Large artefacts are displayed in the green spaces outside the museum including large pans which were used in munitions work now reused as planters. Exploring these gardens is part of the museum experience so there is chance to chat to visitors while working in the garden. The vegetables produced are used in the museum cafe.
Gardening volunteers tend the planters and vegetable beds and talk to visitors. They are supported by other volunteers and staff in the museum and cafe.
