Moffat Mountain Rescue Team
Rescue Team Members volunteer to deliver safe, effective, and compassionate mountain rescue services in challenging environments. They respond to callouts year‑round, carrying out searches, rescues, and medical care while upholding MMRT’s values of Innovation, Inclusion, Compassion, and Excellence. The role demands strong navigation and technical rescue skills, personal resilience, clear communication, and commitment to regular training. Members progress through a structured probation period, maintain operational readiness, and adhere to all MMRT policies and standards to ensure professional, high‑quality rescue capability for the community.

Volunteer Commitment
one evening and one full days training per month on a weekend. Call outs average 1 every 4 weeks and can last up to 12 hours at a time but often less.

People applying to join MMRT don’t need previous mountain rescue experience, but they should bring confidence in remote or mountainous terrain, strong teamwork and communication skills, and the ability to stay calm and resilient under pressure. Useful experience includes spending time outdoors in challenging weather, working effectively as part of a team in volunteering, work or sport, and having been in situations where clear decision‑making and composure were important. Applicants should also have a background in learning new skills or engaging in regular training, whether through outdoor activities, first aid courses, guiding or scouting, cadets, or similar environments. No specialist rescue, medical, or emergency service qualifications are required before joining.

Training and Induction
All team members have an initial induction programme consisting of 8 training sessions. They are then allocated a mentor for the remainder of the 12 month training period.
Training consists of 1 training evening and 1 day per month for 12 months, 80% attendance is required. In addition compulsory completion of a 2 day outdoor first aid course, and a 1 day water awareness course is required,
