A new, free volunteering development session is now available from Third Sector Dumfries and Galloway for organisations looking to strengthen how they recruit, support, and retain volunteers.
Delivered in small, friendly groups of two to four participants, the two-hour session combines practical service design activities with creative brainstorming.
This will give organisations the space to reflect on their current approach, explore fresh ideas, and leave with clear, actionable next steps.
Whether an organisation is just starting to build its volunteering programme or looking to reinvigorate an existing one, the session is designed to deliver real, usable outcomes rather than theory alone. Participants will:
- Take part in a facilitated, small-group discussion built around doing, not just listening
- Work through practical service design exercises tailored to their own challenges
- Brainstorm opportunities and new approaches alongside peer organisations
- Walk away with concrete next steps to build a stronger, more sustainable volunteering programme
Beyond the core session, tailored one-hour sessions are also on offer to help organisations with:
- Creating or reviewing a volunteer role description
- Using data to attract the right volunteers
Feedback from a pilot programme highlighted the value of real-time, in-person support over digital-only guidance, and praised the opportunity to learn from other organisations’ experiences.
One participant noted that hearing from others helped their team rethink how they advertise volunteering opportunities, aiming to make it feel more exciting, informative, and rewarding to prospective volunteers.
