Being kind caring and empathic to the needs of highly vulnerable ladies who have experienced harm and abuse is a must. Being able to think for yourself and use initiative.

Dumfries Hens’ Den is a place for women with additional support needs meet to have fun, socialise, learn new skills and get information. They meet once a week on Monday at St John’s Church hall on Lover Walk, between 10.30 -12.30.

This volunteering position is restricted to female applicants only, under Schedule 9 (part 1) of the Equality Act 2010. The successful applicant will be required to join the PVG scheme. We will pay for that.

Your role would be to support the facilitator and the women during the sessions. Activities could include preparing for arts and crafts, supporting the women to make drinks, bake and cook. We might go walking, or take the bus to different locations. There may be a time when you would work one to one with one if the women to fill in forms. You may be asked by the facilitator to arrange visits from external organisations like citizen’s advice etc.
You will be provided with all training and supported to explore any areas of personal development you think would be helpful to you.
