I have been an LGBTPlus ally for 16 years now, I work in Student Support within a further education college where I have found visibility and education of all genders to be key. Being a trustee on the LGBTPlus Board is a powerful opportunity to champion inclusion, equity, and representation—especially within my working educational setting. It’s important because students and staff alike benefit from visible, authentic voices advocating for LGBTQ+ rights and wellbeing.
As a trustee, you are able to help shape policies, challenge discrimination, and ensure that diverse identities are not only acknowledged but celebrated. I feel my presence on the board sends a clear message: that for me, every learner deserves to feel safe, supported, and seen in their educational journey whatever their orientation.
