Born and raised in Stranraer, I’ve lived through a wide range of life experiences that have shaped my empathy, resilience, and commitment to inclusion. After moving to London at 18 to find space and independence, I was fortunate to be immersed in a vibrant, diverse culture that broadened my perspective and deepened my appreciation for difference. Returning to Dumfries and Galloway at 23, I faced the challenges of single parenthood and complex family dynamics, all of which taught me strength and compassion. My journey as a parent, especially raising a son with autism, has been transformative, filled with learning, growth, and a deep sense of pride in the young man he’s become.
When my eldest son came out as gay at 15, it was a pivotal moment for our family. His courage and honesty inspired my partner and me to become active allies and ultimately led us to D&G LGBT Plus. Becoming a trustee has given me the opportunity to channel my lived experience into meaningful advocacy, helping to ensure that every person, regardless of background or identity, feels seen, supported, and valued. I’m proud to stand alongside others in this role, working to strengthen our community and amplify voices that too often go unheard.
