Third Sector Dumfries and Galloway’s CEO, Alan Webb, has responded to the Scottish Government’s proposed spending and tax plans for 2026-27 published this week.

He said: “We welcome much of today’s budget, including further action on tackling poverty, inequalities, and whole family support. It’s also welcome to see particular focus on the role of our community and voluntary sector, with investment across a range of outcomes.
“We’d like to see more commitment at a national level to Fair Funding, and an expansion of multi-year investment commitments across more policy areas.
“In implementing the ambitions of a budget that will be approved by Parliament in the coming weeks, it’s hugely important that these investment commitments reach directly into our communities, and we will play our role wherever we can to facilitate the local, community-led investment that’s needed.
“From health and care reform, tackling poverty, community connections and building strong local economies, place-based community action is needed more than ever, and we can’t miss this opportunity to enable more of it.”
