Dumfries and Galloway Citizen’s Advice Service

Quotes From Volunteers Archie & Alison

After a forty-year career in the civil service, Archie Walker decided to volunteer at his local bureau in Annan:
“When you retire it leaves a bit of a vacuum and I wanted to get back to feeling useful again. The training is thorough and provides you with the knowledge and confidence to take on new challenges, so when a part time adviser role became available, it seemed like a natural progression to apply for it.”

Adviser Alison Quigley also started at D&G CAS as a volunteer:
“I volunteered after taking early retirement from my job in local government, but I wanted to remain active and my job had always been public facing. I really enjoy engaging with the community and after a spell as a volunteer admin assistant, I jumped at the chance of applying for a job more in the front line.”

Archie encourages anyone who is thinking of volunteering at D&G CAS to, “Just do it! If you have a positive attitude and you like to help people, if you find great satisfaction from a job well done, then volunteering with D&G CAS is for you.”
