Why Consider Becoming a Trustee?

If you are passionate about making a positive impact in your local community, volunteering as a Trustee for a local charity could be a rewarding way to help drive meaningful improvements. Trustees play a vital role in guiding organisations that are dedicated to enhancing the well-being of their communities and addressing local needs.

Supporting Community Wellbeing and Biodiversity

One of the main objectives of the Keir, Penpont and Tynron Development Trust is to promote better health and wellbeing within the community while also safeguarding the rich biodiversity of this picturesque rural area. The Trust is committed to maintaining and improving the natural environment, ensuring that it remains a vibrant and healthy place for everyone.

A Personal Connection to the Cause

Having grown up on a Highland farm, I have fond memories of listening to the crek-crek of corncrakes and watching wildflowers such as harebells, oxeye daisies, and campions sway in the breeze. Walking or cycling along quiet country roads to school instilled in me a deep appreciation for the beauty and tranquillity of the countryside. These experiences have inspired my passion for preserving such natural wonders, so that future generations can enjoy them as well.

Current Projects and Initiatives

The Keir, Penpont and Tynron Development Trust aims to realise its goals through various initiatives. These include the creation of the Penpont to Thornhill Active Travel Path, which encourages sustainable travel and connects local communities. The Trust is also dedicated to maintaining the verges along this route and other core paths, helping to support native flora and fauna. Additionally, the Trust organises ‘Stroll in the Park’ walks and operates an e-bike hire scheme to further promote walking and cycling within the area.
