Community Fund give 22 D&G groups National Lottery funding

Twenty-two community organisations across Dumfries and Galloway are celebrating this week in the latest round of funding from The National Lottery Community Fund

Awards:

Auchencairn Climate Transition (ACT) – £10,000

This group will use the funding to continue providing an ebike hire scheme, and a range of community cycling events and activities.

Auldgirth Hall (SCIO) – £9914

This group will use the funding to improve their kitchen facilities to enhance their hall for current and future community users.

Closeburn Recreation Hall – £9700

This group will use the funding to resurface the hall car park, improving accessibility to a well-used community facility.

Creetown Initiative – £74,275

This group will use the funding to continue delivering activities for older people living in the rurally isolated village of Creetown and surrounding parish of Kirkmabreck. A Warm Space will also be offered in the first year. The project will engage around 100 older people and 10 volunteers over three years.

Dumfries High Street Limited – £9950

This group will use the funding to involve the community in developing a community garden in the yard of their building.

Dumfries Partnership Action Group – £7800

This group will use the funding to deliver a ‘Market of Possibility’ in Dumfries town centre, showcasing new community groups and social enterprises by bringing them together in a market setting.

Eaglesfield Public Hall – £8154

This group will use the funding to carry out internal re-decoration of this well used community hall.

Electric Theatre Workshop – £9998

The grant will fund volunteer costs to enhance delivery of community events and activities, and the operation of the groups community space at Loreburn Hall. This will provide educational, social and recreational opportunities for the people of Dumfries.

Gretna and Rigg Community Council – £1350

This group will use the funding to organise and hold a community Christmas pantomime.

Increased Access 2 Psychological Support – £9983

This group will use the funding to provide sourdough bread making and mindfulness sessions for four groups of 8-10 people. The courses are aimed at people experiencing financial hardship and experiencing the associated stress and anxiety.

Isle Futures – £138,962

This group will use the funding to continue to run, facilitate and develop a programme of health and wellbeing and social activities and events for the local community whilst continuing to operate the only café and shop in the village to serve the local community and visitors alike.

Kirkcudbright Development Trust – £2795

This group will use the funding to run free meal sessions twice a week after school or at weekends, targeted at families. Cookery school sessions and other activities will be provided and children will be encouraged to bring homework and make use of the Wi-Fi.

Kirkmahoe Community Council – £3050

This group will use the funding to increase the resilience of the community in the parish of Kirkmahoe, running regular lunch events and also building up local capacity to endure floods and other extreme weather events.

Kirkpatrick Durham Recreation Association – £9000

This group will use the funding to complete the refurbishment of a derelict outbuilding to provide much needed storage space for a marquee, tables and chairs, and gardening equipment.

Lockerbie Town Hall. Users Group – £8000

This group will use the funding to paint the interior of the hall to provide community groups and local people with an enhanced facility.

Newton Stewart Initiative – £10,000

This group will work with disengaged young people to through practical skills building, including woodwork, decorating and habitat management. They will also be offered food and a warm space twice a week.

Nith Inshore Rescue – £10,000

This group will use the funding to secure a Lifeboat Ambulance Vehicle, which will help them respond to water-related incidents in the Upper Solway and the surrounding area.

South Machars Community Centre – Whithorn – £24,354

This group will use the funding to run and facilitate a range of activities and services from the Community Centre in Whithorn. Over a year, the project will benefit around 100 people and involve over 30 volunteers.

The Sandside Community Garden Association – £7914

This group in North-West Dumfries will use the funding to continue to develop activities in their community green space providing opportunities for people to improve their health and wellbeing.

Thornhill After School Lego Club – £2100

The grant will support the local Lego club, costs for specialist workshops with one of the creators from the Lego movie and participation in UK Lego League.

Upper Nithsdale Arts and Crafts Community Initiative Limited – £84,000

This group will continue running a wide range of activities for the benefit of the community in Upper Nithsdale. The project will tackle social isolation and improve the health and wellbeing of local people.

User and Carer Involvement – £39,235

This group will use the funding to provide cost-of-living related support to isolated women with learning disabilities. They will expand the work of their Hen’s Den in Dumfries to include Dens in Annandale and Eskdale, Stewartry and Wigtownshire. They will deliver 180 support and activity sessions in these Dens.
